Time Management for Work-From-Home Moms
How to Balance Business, Family, and Home
Finding the right balance between running a business, taking care of a home, and being present for family can feel impossible—but it doesn’t have to be. As a stay-at-home mom and business owner, I’ve learned that smart time management makes all the difference. In this newsletter, I’ll share practical strategies that help me stay productive while making time for what truly matters.
The Reality of Juggling It All
After years of working in South Korea, I wanted a different pace of life—one where I could enjoy family time while still building something meaningful. Now, I run Twinkle Moment while managing home life in Texas. My day starts early, dropping my child off at school at 7:45 AM and picking them up at 3 PM. That leaves only a few hours in between for business, housework, and everything else. It often feels like a mission impossible, but with the right strategies, it works.
1. Let Go of Perfection
The first and most important rule: Don’t aim for perfection. A spotless house, a perfectly structured business, and being a fully present mom all at once? It’s unrealistic. Prioritize what matters each day and accept that some things won’t get done—and that’s okay.
If the laundry piles up for an extra day, if dinner is simple rather than elaborate, or if the toys aren’t perfectly put away every night, the world won’t end. Instead of focusing on doing everything flawlessly, I focus on what makes the biggest impact—whether that’s preparing orders, engaging with customers, or simply enjoying a quiet moment with my child.

2. Protect Focused Work Time
Even with a busy home, set clear work hours and protect them. Whether it’s early mornings, school hours, or late nights, having dedicated work time helps maximize productivity.
For me, the time between school drop-off and pick-up is when I get the majority of my work done. I plan my most demanding tasks—like product sourcing, marketing strategies, and content creation—during this window. I also set clear boundaries with my family so they understand when I need uninterrupted work time. Even if you can only block out two hours of focused work, that time can be incredibly productive if you minimize distractions.

3. Prioritize Exercise
Running a business is a marathon, not a sprint. Exercise isn’t optional—it’s essential. Moving daily helps with focus, energy, and long-term success.
Instead of trying to squeeze in a gym trip, I do home workouts like dumbbell exercises or quick HIIT sessions. Even a 20-minute walk makes a difference. On especially busy days, I incorporate movement into daily routines—doing calf raises while brushing my teeth, stretching while reviewing emails, or even taking work calls while walking around the house. A healthy body supports a productive mind.

Since COVID-19, I’ve been doing intense strength training for at least 30 minutes, three times a week. The amazing part is that I’ve gained over 20 pounds of muscle compared to my 30s. Photo Source: Freepik
4. Make Household Chores a Family Task
Instead of doing it all alone, set family cleaning time to tackle household tasks together. In our house, Sunday evening before bedtime is our cleanup time. We reset the home—picking up clutter, clearing surfaces, and getting ready for the week ahead. When everyone helps, it takes less time and stress.
For daily upkeep, I set small, manageable rules like:
One-minute tidy-ups before leaving a room.
“Clean as you go” when cooking to avoid mess buildup.
Assigning tasks to family members (e.g., kids putting away their toys, spouse handling the dishes).
A clean house doesn’t mean doing everything alone—it means creating small habits that prevent messes from piling up.

5. Leverage AI and Automation
Technology can be a lifesaver when running a business and managing home life. I use AI tools like ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas, draft emails, and speed up research. But AI isn’t just for work—it helps at home too.
For example, I use AI-powered grocery shopping apps that suggest meal plans and automatically generate shopping lists based on my preferences. Smart assistants like Alexa or Google Home help me set reminders, manage schedules, and even create to-do lists hands-free. I also use AI-generated social media planners to batch schedule posts, so I’m not constantly trying to come up with content.
By letting technology handle repetitive tasks, I free up time for work, family, and self-care.

ChatGPT has reduced my work time by more than tenfold. I can’t imagine a world without this service now.
6. Utilize Kids’ Activity Time for Small Tasks
My 8-year-old is involved in activities like basketball and swimming, which means waiting time for me. Instead of scrolling on my phone, I use this time for quick tasks like reviewing emails, making small edits, or searching for suppliers.
Other tasks I fit into this time include:
Listening to business podcasts for inspiration.
Brainstorming content ideas.
Writing down daily priorities for the next day.
Even 30-minute chunks of time can add up when used wisely.
Twice a week, during my child’s two-hour practice, I can keep an eye on them while also getting short, simple tasks done—making it a valuable time for productivity.
7. Use Smart Home Devices to Save Time
Outsource household tasks to machines whenever possible. My robot vacuum runs daily, saving me 30 minutes of sweeping and vacuuming. The dishwasher handles cleaning while I work, and I always set it to run overnight to maximize efficiency.
Other smart home tools that help:
Smart plugs & timers that automate appliances, like starting the coffee maker before I wake up.
Meal delivery services for especially busy weeks, reducing time spent grocery shopping.
Instead of doing everything manually, let technology handle the repetitive chores.

I have my robot vacuum programmed to clean every day at 10 AM. It even has a self-emptying function, so I only need to replace the dustbin every few months.
8. Learn from Productivity Experts
Reading has helped me refine my time management skills. Two books I highly recommend:
Deep Work by Cal Newport – Helps focus on what truly matters by reducing distractions and improving concentration. This book changed the way I structure my work hours.
The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss – Teaches strategies for working smarter, not harder. Many of the automation and outsourcing techniques I use come from this book.
I also follow productivity blogs and YouTube channels that offer time-saving hacks for busy entrepreneurs. Learning from others is one of the fastest ways to improve efficiency.

Balancing home, business, and family isn’t about doing everything—it’s about doing what matters most. By setting clear priorities, using smart tools, and making time for yourself, it’s possible to manage it all without burnout.
